"Honoring Our Elders"

2014-Present

Ive  created this series of paintings to celebrate the elders of our village back home in the Sierra Tarahumara, of northern Mexico. Each portrait depicts a real individual from our community, someone in their 70's, 80's or 90's.

Although hardship is etched in their faces, an innate sweetness and kindness burns bright in their eyes. These folk are the salt of the earth.

.Portraits are painted with bamboo brush and acrylic washes on polypropylene paper. And, save one - "Tributaries" - each portrait is 60" high, and ranges from 60" to 84" in width. "Tributaries" is 60" wide by 96" in height.
