This drawing was inspired by a line in a song made famous by the Argentinian singer Mercedes Sosa. "Como Pájaros en el Aire" was composed by fellow Argentinian songwriter Peteco Carbajal, and celebrates the world of working class women: Carbajal compares the hands of the mothers - as they bake bread, chop wood, and make pottery - to "pájaros en el aire," or birds in the air.
|
The lyric that particularly attracted me follows this comparison. Mercedes Sosa sings,
"Lo cotidiano se vuelve mágico":
"The day-to-day becomes magical."
|
I was attracted to the idea of conveying this sense of magic, of spirituality, that dwells at the periphery of our consciousness.
