Letter from her Son
Le Escribio su Hijo
Drawings by Los Angeles-based artist J. Michael Walker
. This was the first interpretation I created for what has become my ongoing series on "The Daily Life of the Virgin of Guadalupe."
I thought of my monther-in-law Adelina, as she would sit at the kitchen table, reading notes from family members, written on lined notebook paper and sent in multi-striped air mail envelopes.
Here, Guadalupe reads a ltter from her Son, who has also enclosed a cashier's check. Her favorite cookies - Galletas Marias- (because, she imagines, they are named for her) fill a bowl nearby.
