Paintings and Stories by J. Michael Walker
Over fifty paintings in sumi ink, acrylic and silkscreen; three specially constructed dioramas; a suite of computer graphic icons; audio recordings of original song and poems; dozens of stories; two videos; and a site-specific chapel installation -
These mix with more than a dozen museum artifacts (bultos, retablos, a pre-contact native stone carving, and a pair of hand-tinted glass slides) in a space designed by Ann Marshall (who oversaw the redesign of the Getty Villa) and a soundscape designed by Emmy-winning sound designer Phyllis Ginter, to create the meditative world of J Michael Walker's "All the Saints of the City of the Angels".

San Julian Street Installation

A suite of graphic remixes of J Michael Walker's original San Julian Street painting gather 'round an 18th-century wax carving of Our Lady of the Angels - the form of the Virgin Mary that gave L.A. its name.

San Lorenzo Street and the Santa Ynez Triptych

In the Westside Gallery, San Lorenzo Street mourns the loss of native lands, while the Santa Ynez triptych celebrates the Palisades community's struggle to preserve undeveloped land from encroachment.

Chapel Installation: Santa Monica and St. Stephanie
This chapel-like installation speaks to the costs and solutions to the spiraling threat of violence in our communities; a video gives voice to the mothers, and the altar invites reflection
